The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week…
I upgraded my phone. The upgrade was not needed but my phone was on loan from my husbands work. To make a long story short, his phone broke so they gave him one with out a keyboard; he likes a keyboard so we switched phones. Now his other job decided to provide a work phone and he felt like we needed to return the other loaned phone to his other work; which means I had to get a new phone. So, I spent all day getting to know it and installing my apps. Talk about a lot of time I could have spent on something more important.

In our homeschool this week…
This week was a bit spotty. But we got a bit of reading done and some of his reading lessons. For my BIL, we are almost caught up with his missing paperwork from the last semester, woot! Then we can get started on getting caught up so he won’t have to work through his summer break.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
“To secure this habit of obedience, the mother must exercise great self-restraint; she must never give a command which she does not intend to see carried out to the full.” – Charlotte Mason, Volume 1 – Home Education p.164
I have been trying to work on my sons obedience habits and this was extremely helpful. If I am not up to making sure he follows through, I better not ask him to do something.

I am inspired by…
This post from Barb at Handbook of Nature Study. I have been incorporating narration into our home school to speed wingnuts vocabulary along. Since he is now willing to talk, he needs a lot of practice to catch up. Well, this post reminded me of an opertunity for narration that I did not think about. Next week I will be adding this in.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Tomorrow my husband is entering a dirt bike race and I am still deciding if I want to go or not. Cause if it is raining, it would not be fun.

My favorite thing this week was…
Me: Put the socks back into the laundry basket.
Wingnut: I can’t, my brain hurts!

What’s not working for us…
My schedule. I need to rework it since my BIL is here on Wednesdays and Thursdays and it has been throwing wingnuts school work off. Not sure what I am going to do but I will come up with something 🙂

I’m reading…
I finished ‘The Dark Frigate’ and loved it. Now I am reading the last book in the Sherlock Holmes series. When I am done with it, I am going to read ‘The Host’ by Stephenie Meyer. But after reading this quote from the site, “Science fiction for people who don’t like science fiction,” I am not sure if I will like it or not because I LIKE science fiction.

I’m cooking…
Coconut Curry Shrimp, yum!

I’m grateful for…
Chickens that provide me with eggs; they go through a lot of work for me.

We made fizzy straws for our science experiment this week. They turned out really yummy and reminded me of pop rocks.

I got this project from Almost Unschoolers. She gives some really good detailed instructions that worked perfectly.
