For this months Handbook of Nature Study the suggestions were; pears, milkweed, cobwebs, and leaf-miners. On this day we inspected pears.
We got out our journals and recorded what we observed about the pears. Wingnut dictated to me that they were yellow and sweet. He learned that there were five seeds and that even though they were sweet, they were not his favorite fruit to eat.

After cutting them open he pulled the stem out and the core. I did not know you could pull out a core.

After reading this snip-it in the Handbook of Nature Study book we learned that when they are really ripe this is possible because of the core-lines.
